Joel Embiid throws 76ers teammates under the bus after abysmal Game 7 performance

With a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals on the line Sunday, the Philadelphia 76ers' two best players, MVP Joel Embiid and point-guard James Harden, showed up incredibly small in an embarrassing Game 7 blowout loss to the Boston Celtics.

However, after the loss, Embiid deflected some of the blame for how the 76ers' season ended away from himself and Harden.

"I can't win alone. Me and James, we just can't win alone," Embiid said. "That's why basketball is played 5-on-5."

It's a curious statement from Embiid, considering that Sunday's humiliating defeat would've likely been worse if not for his teammates.

Embiid was largely irrelevant on Sunday, finishing with 15 points, shooting an abysmal 5-of-18 from the field. Meanwhile, Harden was no better, finishing 3-of-11 from the field (1-of-5 from three) for only nine points.

While neither player's numbers looked great in Game 7, one horrendous stat stands above the rest. Believe it or not, Embiid and Harden combined for more turnovers (9) than field goals (8) in Sunday's lopsided loss.

Sunday's poor performance by the pair capped off an alarming trend as the games and moments became more pressure-filled against the Celtics. Embiid and Harden combined to score 39 points in Game 6. However, neither recorded a point through the final 5:57 of the fourth quarter, ultimately leading to a 95-86 loss and a Game 7 in Boston.

A few days ago, the 76ers were up 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, looking to get over the second-round hump finally. Now, after two disastrous losses, instead of making the franchise's first trip to the conference final in over two decades, the future in Philly is uncertain.

The newly crowned MVP isn't going anywhere, barring a drastic change in the franchise's vision. However, you can't say the same about Harden, nor anyone else involved with this year's collapse, including head coach Doc Rivers.

Harden has one season remaining on a two-year, $68.6 million deal signed last offseason. But whispers of Harden's exit from Philly, should things end poorly, have been around as far back as December

If Harden departs, his likeliest destination is a return to the Houston Rockets, who have cap flexibility and multiple first-round picks.
