Free agent forward John Konchar has signed with Olympiacos, according to his agency GSL Sports Group ( Twitter link) and the Greek club. In a press release announcing the deal, the team said Konchar has signed a two-year contract.
Konchar, 30, is something of a Swiss army knife. The 6’5″ wing rebounds well for his size, can handle the ball a little, and is capable of defending multiple positions, but he has never made a major impact on the box score. He holds career averages of 4.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 17.6 minutes per night over the course of 363 NBA regular season games.
A seven-year veteran who has spent most of his career in Memphis, Konchar was traded to Utah in last season’s Jaren Jackson Jr. blockbuster, then was flipped to Minnesota in August along with Cody Williams before being waived by the Timberwolves.
Konchar signed a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 training camp contract with the Knicks in September and was expected to vie for the 14th spot on the team’s regular season roster, but he was cut near the start of camp in order to deal with a personal matter. That decision was said to be mutual.
Konchar, who had been an unrestricted free agent since October 2, will be competing professionally overseas for the first time in his career as a member of Olympiacos. He’ll help provide depth on the wing for a team that’s missing Evan Fournier due to shoulder and knee injuries and that just suspended Tyler Dorsey for a month in response to a social media controversy, per BasketNews.com.
Olympiacos, whose roster also includes former NBA players like Sasha Vezenkov, Donta Hall, and Kostas Papanikolaou, is off a 5-1 start in EuroLeague play this fall. The Greek squad is the EuroLeague’s defending champion, having won the title in 2026 for the first time in 13 years.
