John Konchar To Sign One-Year Contract With Knicks

John Konchar has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the defending champion Knicks, ESPN’s Shams Charania tweets.

The Knicks’ interest in Konchar was reported earlier this month. At least three other Eastern Conference teams — the Heat, Raptors and Magic — were interested in signing him. The Heat had discussions with Konchar and told him they would get back to him this week regarding a potential offer but Konchar chose not to wait, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald tweets.

New York will now have 14 players on standard deals. The team isn’t expected to fill its 15th spot due to its proximity to the second tax apron.

Konchar was waived by Minnesota late last month, shortly after he was acquired from Utah in the Josh Green trade. The 30-year-old guard/forward spent six-and-a-half years in Memphis prior to being traded to the Jazz in February.

The Chicago native averaged 4.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.5 SPG and 0.7 BPG in 56 games (19.9 MPG) last season with the Grizzlies and Jazz. Konchar’s career shooting slash line is .469/.349/.727.

Konchar has never averaged more than 5.1 points per game in a season, but he was a rotation regular and a jack-of-all-trades contributor during his time with the Grizzlies. The 6’5″ swingman rebounds well for his position, can handle the ball a little, and is capable of defending multiple positions. He can also knock down the occasional 3-pointer, with a career rate of 34.9% from beyond the arc.

Konchar’s full $6.17MM salary for the 2026/27 season was guaranteed and Minnesota is on the hook for that cap hit. The Knicks will be paying him the veteran’s minimum, presuming he makes the roster.
