Jonathan Kuminga doesn’t want to return to the Golden State Warriors, according to NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Kuminga is a restricted free agent.

“While there are members of the organization who want Jonathan Kuminga back, given his overall potential, the assumption is that he would return with the understanding that he would be flipped before the trade deadline in February,” Siegel wrote. “The only problem is that it is known around the league that Kuminga doesn’t want to be with the Warriors any longer and instead wants to continue his career elsewhere, sources said.”

Kuminga appeared in 47 games for the Warriors last season. He averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the free-throw line.

The 22-year-old Kuminga can sign an offer sheet with a rival team, but the Warriors can match the offer sheet since the swingman is a restricted free agent.

Kuminga wants to get paid and be a focal point on offense. Since Golden State has Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, Kuminga probably can’t become an All-Star if he remains with the Warriors.

Golden State selected Kuminga with the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. Kuminga has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists with the Warriors, who won the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics in six games.

The Warriors are expected to sign Al Horford and De’Anthony Melton once the Kuminga situation gets resolved. Kuminga has been linked to the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls in sign-and-trade talks.

Kuminga is looking to make $25 million in average annual salary, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. It will be interesting to see how this situation turns out.
