Karl-Anthony Towns' shooting woes sink to historic lows

To say Karl-Anthony Towns has struggled to shoot the ball in the ongoing Western Conference Finals would be the understatement of the century.

The Timberwolves star is shooting 27.8 percent against the Mavericks, the fourth-worst field goal percentage by any player through the first three games of a conference or division finals in the shock clock era, per ESPN Stats & Information.

Towns — the self-proclaimed greatest big man shooter ever — has particularly struggled to convert from the three-point arc dating back to the second-round series against the Nuggets. Over his past five games, Towns is shooting 4-of-32 (12.5 percent) from deep, which marks the worst three-point percentage over a five-game span among all players with at least 30 attempts in NBA playoffs history.

KAT's cold shooting spell hurt any chance Minnesota had of rallying a fourth-quarter comeback on Sunday. In the final four minutes, when the Timberwolves were outscored 14-3, KAT went scoreless on 0-for-4 shooting and 0-for-3 from deep.

Timberwolves' head coach Chris Finch didn't mince words after the loss.

"It was hard to watch at times," Finch told reporters of Towns' shooting woes.

Towns defended his shooting struggles by stating that he's been putting in the work in practice, attempting as many as 1500 shots per day.

"It's tough, for sure," Towns admitted. "I'm good confidence-wise. Just got to keep shooting."

The Timberwolves will hope to avoid getting swept in Tuesday's Game 4.
