Many NBA stars have seen a decline in their play in their early 30s. Some of them, though, have been able to continue playing at a high level by the time they're 35. LeBron James is a different kind of beast, though, as he is still one of the best players in the league despite turning 40 next month.
One of those who likely enjoy the Los Angeles Lakers superstar defying expectations is Karl Malone. The Utah Jazz legend once said James was the "most talented player" he had ever seen, even sending a message to the four-time MVP's haters.
"I think LeBron James is the most talented player that I've ever seen," Malone said on the "Dan Patrick Show" in 2013. "And the reason being, sometimes you hear people make a statement, but they don't back it up with nothing. And let me explain to you. LeBron James is about 6'8"...about 265, 275 [pounds], and I would say to do the things he do, we will never see it again. So, for all those haters out there...sit back and enjoy!"
That was quite incredible praise from the legendary forward, who happened to face off against some of the best players in NBA history.
Of course, who can forget his battles against Michael Jordan in the 1997 and 1998 Finals? Malone's career also coincided with those of Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant, and many more legends. So, it's interesting that he thought James was better than all of them in terms of talent.

It's also worth noting that the "Mailman" delivered his assertion when LeBron was fresh off leading the Miami Heat to a second consecutive championship. Little did he know that James would appear in several more Finals and secure two more rings.
Moreover, the future Hall of Famer is still a threat to compete for the title to this day. Aside from his talent, James' longevity also deserves to be applauded. Malone would know a thing or two about that, as he managed to average 20.6 points per game in his age-39 season. However, he once acknowledged that James is a unique, once-in-a-generation player.
It remains to be seen how Bron's resume will eventually look once he decides to retire from basketball. Of course, the only thing he is playing for now is another championship or two. He has already achieved what most players could only dream of accomplishing in the professional ranks. James has even fulfilled a feat that no one else might be able to replicate.

The 20-time All-Star has shown no signs of slowing down, even if his scoring has taken a bit of a dip this season. On the other hand, his assists are up again, as he has assumed the role of the Lakers' primary playmaker anew.
James can probably continue lacing his shoes for several more years. Until he decides to step away from the sport, his fans and haters should just sit back and enjoy the show while it lasts.
