Karma strikes Bulls fans for booing Jerry Krause's widow

Bulls fans booed a widow during halftime. Then their team got blown out in the third quarter.

The Bulls inducted the first members of their “Ring Of Honor” during halftime of Friday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors. They inducted 13 individuals plus the 72-win 1995-96 Bulls team, including its general manager Jerry Krause.

But the crowd booed when Krause’s name was announced, even with his widow, Thelma, looking visibly upset. While Krause built much of that Bulls dynasty, he was also blamed for breaking up the dynasty, and vilified in the Michael Jordan documentary, “The Last Dance.”

Perhaps as a karmic punishment from the basketball gods for the booing, the Bulls got scorched in the third quarter. Klay Thompson sank five three-pointers on his way to a 17-point, three-assist performance, and Golden State outscored Chicago, 48-20.

The Warriors went on to win 140-131, breaking a three-game winning streak for the Bulls.

After the game, broadcaster Stacey King ripped the booing fans, calling it, “the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Chicago is a tough town. It’s not a surprise that the fans sided with Michael Jordan over his front-office enemy, with Phil Jackson over the man who forced him out of town, or with workers over management.

But the basketball gods don’t approve of booing widows, and their wrath came swiftly and brutally. That, or the Bulls need to guard Klay Thompson better when he’s red-hot from three-point range.
