Kawhi Leonard Calls Out Clippers Teammates: ‘The Guys Don’t Know The Plays’
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Clippers are a team to watch in the Western Conference. When healthy, they have a great roster led by two superstars. One of them is Paul George. The other is Kawhi Leonard. The latter just called out his Clippers teammates on offense, “the guys don’t know the plays.”

With two weeks remaining before the start of the regular season, the Clippers don’t seem to be clicking on offense. Leonard admires the effort the team is playing with, but doesn’t seem to have confidence in their grasp of the plays.

“We’re doing a good job of playing hard, I feel like we’re bringing that intense energy on the defensive end, and that’s all you can ask for, especially in a preseason game,” star Kawhi Leonard told The Times. “I think guys are getting after it.

“Downside of it is, we still don’t know plays. Some of the guys don’t know the plays so when we get back to practice we really got to focus on that. We can’t have the same, you know, downfall that we did last year. We have to start it now and be able to build and adjust once we get down into April.”

The team has been desperate to make an impact since Leonard joined the team. Time could be running out as the rest of the league is improving while they remain questionable mainly due to injuries. That is why Leonard wants to ensure the team gets it right from the start “and be able to build and adjust once we get down into April.”

On the plus side, the 2019 champion did mention “the energy on the defensive end.” Leonard added that the team is “doing a good job of playing hard” despite it being the pre-season. A former two-time defensive player of the year is sure to hold the Clippers accountable on defense as well. There was acknowledgement of a need to catch up on offense from Clippers coach Tyronn Lue.

“Now offensively, we got to start catching up offensively, which, we will do that,” Lue said.

Since joining the Clippers in 2019, they have made the conference finals just once. That was in the 2020-2021 season. All eyes will be on the team and how much longer they have left before calling the duo of George and Leonard a bust. According to Leonard, the offense needs to step it up in order for them to have a chance.
