Kawhi Leonard one vote shy from being unanimous NBA Finals MVP

Kawhi Leonard and his Toronto Raptors closed out the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the NBA Finals Thursday evening.

It was a thrilling matchup in what was the final game in Oakland. It also represents the first NBA title for the Raptors.

Following the victory, Raptors star Kawhi Leonard was crowned NBA Finals MVP — becoming just the third player after Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron James to win the Finals MVP for two different teams.

Leonard was also darn close to being a unanimous MVP. There was just one holdout, veteran media personality Hubie Brown.

To be fair, Fred VanVleet had an extraordinary performance. He scored 22 points and hit on 5-of-11 from distance in Game 6.

However, Leonard’s Finals performance was one for he ages. Sure, he scored "only" 22 points in Game 6, but the impending free agent averaged nearly 29 points and 9.8 rebounds on the series.

In any event, Leonard got the two trophies he was hoping to acquire after being dealt from the Spurs. Whether that means he’ll remain in Toronto is not yet known. But don’t bet against it.
