The Detroit Pistons were one of the best teams in the NBA during the 2024-25 season. The team finally made it to the playoffs after missing it the past five seasons. It’s also the first time the team has achieved notable success with its young core. With Cade Cunningham leading the way and J.B. Bickerstaff developing the young talent, the Pistons have a promising future ahead.

However, they aren’t immune to trade rumors. There have been reports that the Pistons could make a change soon, which could affect their young core. Aside from Cunningham, they also have promising players like Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson, Isaiah Stewart and Jaden Ivey.

On Monday, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel wrote an article regarding the Pistons’ future, which involves Ivey. The 23-year-old guard has shown steady improvement while sharing the floor with Cunningham. However, he suffered a broken left fibula during a game against the Orlando Magic last season. He was eventually ruled out of the campaign, only appearing in 30 games.

According to Siegel, Ivey’s name has been mentioned in trade rumors during the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

“One interesting name came up in some early trade chatter entering the 2025-26 season at NBA Summer League in Las Vegas: Jaden Ivey,” Siegel wrote.

According to the NBA insider, rival teams have questioned his fit with the Pistons. While the team’s offense is slowed down and calculated with Cunningham, it changes with Ivey. The third-year guard out of Purdue plays at a faster pace.

Due to this, many believe that the Pistons could make a change that could potentially include Ivey in the mix.

“Keep an eye on the Pistons seeking a big upgrade before the trade deadline and potentially including Ivey in said move, as well as their new $14 million TPE from the Dennis Schroder sign-and-trade with Sacramento.”

Detroit Pistons legend had high praise for the current head coach

In just one season, Bickerstaff has transformed the Detroit Pistons into one of the most exciting teams in the league. Isiah Thomas, one of the franchise’s legends, gave him high marks for his efforts and contributions to the squad.

The former star guard spoke highly of the current head coach on NBA TV, during a live broadcast of the Pistons’ game against the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Summer League.

“We didn’t like the way they were being coached. But you are a perfect fit for everything that the Pistons are and trying to be and continue to be,” Thomas said. “You definitely have raised the standard and kept the standard so thank you for that.”

Bickerstaff led the team to a 44-38 record last season and secured the sixth spot in the postseason.
