Luka Doncic dominated in the head-to-head matchup against Victor Wembanyama in their first meeting of the season.

The Los Angeles Lakers took on the San Antonio Spurs in an early season showdown.

The Spurs were missing Dylan Harper and De’Aaron Fox, while the Lakers were missing Austin Reaves and LeBron James.

Despite being shorthanded, Luka Doncic carried the load and outplayed Victor Wembanyama on his way to a triple-double of 35 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists.

Kendrick Perkins says Luka Doncic was the best defensive player on the floor, not Victor Wembanyama

Wembanyama had a pretty average game against the Lakers scoring 19 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 3 assists. He fouled out in the final moments of the game.

Not only was Doncic better than Wembanyama on offense, but surprisingly he outplayed the 21-year-old on defense too.

Kendrick Perkins was impressed with what he saw from Doncic on the defensive end in the win over the Spurs.

“Last night I was expecting Wemby to be the best defensive player on the floor. That happened to be Luka.

“Five steals, two blocks, Luka Doncic? All over the place, making an impact?

“I’m saying Luka is really out here and he’s playing with this type of force, and he’s on a mission.

“And we talk about the revenge tour, that was a prime example, going against an elite team in the West.”

Luka Doncic is out for blood and is looking like the MVP to start the season

Doncic has been making the doubters look foolish, including Nico Harrison with how dominant he has been to start the season.

Doncic joins Wilt Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to score 200+ points through the first 5 games of a season.

Luka is also the first player in NBA history with 200+ points, 25+ rebounds, and 25+ assists through the first 5 games of a season as the Lakers sit at No. 2 in the West.

Doncic this season is averaging an incredible 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game on a 63.6 true shooting percentage. Doncic is simply playing like the MVP right now.
