Kendrick Perkins Reveals Major Condition in Support of JJ Redick as Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Darvin Ham’s termination opened up an opportunity for JJ Redick to become the Los Angeles Lakers’ new head coach . For Kendrick Perkins, though, he only has one condition to support the former NBA star’s coaching bid.

After Frank Vogel was fired by the Lakers two seasons ago, Darvin Ham was given the top job in Los Angeles. In his first year as head coach, the former Milwaukee Bucks star had to figure out a rotation that involved LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook. Unfortunately, the latter had to go to make the lineup more effective against opposing squads.

Coupled with a several acquisitions at the trade deadline, the Lakers went from Play-In Tournament hopefuls to appearing in the Western Conference Finals last year against Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets. And even though they were swept in four games, there was hope that the following season will be a better one for the Purple and Gold.

That hope didn’t materialize as the Lakers finished the regular season as a Play-In team again. Even if they got past the tournament to secure a playoff spot, they were still eliminated again by Jokic’s Nuggets. This led to Ham’s firing and the inclusion of JJ Redick as one of the candidates for the Lakers’ head coaching gig.

Kendrick Perkins Hands Out One Condition To Support JJ Redick’s Los Angeles Lakers Head Coach Bid

Redick’s bid to become the Lakers’ new head coach has divided the media into two with one side supporting him and the other scrutinizing his credentials for the job, such as former NBA coach George Karl’s take on his bid. Kendrick Perkins, on the other hand, will support Redick if he agrees to one condition, which can be seen in a video he shared on his official X account:

Even though Perkin’s condition isn’t serious at all, Redick is facing some serious competition for the job. Outside of the former NBA sharpshooter, L.A. is also considered James Borrego and Sam Cassell to become the team’s head coach.

It remains to be seen who will get the gig in Los Angeles or if Redick is successful in landing it. For sure, the coming months will be interesting for him and Lakers fans everywhere.
