PHOENIX — The 2024-25 Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant were featured in season two of Netflix’s ‘Startin 5,’ which gave fans a closer look at the NBA’s stars throughout a season.

Among the star-studded cast, Durant displayed an honest and close look at his season and the struggles that came with his final year in Phoenix, including what led to a shaky season.

During episode three of the series, Durant looked back at two early-season injuries that he felt led to the demise of the Suns. In this particular scene, it was Phoenix’s Dec. 3, 2024, matchup against the San Antonio Spurs where Durant sprained his ankle and wound up missing the next three games.

What Kevin Durant Said

“It’s an unfortunate situation,” Durant said. “It’s a game of inches. Step on somebody’s foot [the] smallest way at the right time, and you could have a severe injury.

“I just felt like we were in a solid groove. Unfortunate when injuries come into play and destroy the whole chemistry and continuity of the team.”

This was Durant’s second injury to that point of the season. Just under a month prior, he sustained a left calf strain while the Suns were 9-1 on the season only to miss the next seven games, where Phoenix lost six of them.

The season played out how it did, and many could argue that Durant’s Phoenix tenure could never reach its potential entirely due to the health of him, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.
