Kevin Durant hoped he could fight for titles alongside Devin Booker. Now, after his trade to the Houston Rockets, their paths crossed again after the former teammates decided to link up. They would have to return to their respective teams later in the year.
It was also a momentous occasion after Booker just signed a contract extension with the Phoenix Suns that would make him the highest-paid athlete in all major American sports leagues. Durant seemed happy for his former teammate and took him to a concert.
The two traveled to the United Kingdom, where Drake was to perform alongside other artists at the Wireless Festival. Owing to Durant’s relationship with the Grammy Award-winning artist, the two were close to the stage.

At one point, the rapper walked towards where the two Paris Olympics teammates were standing and dapped up the Slim Reaper. They smiled at each other, reinforcing their friendship that has spanned decades.

At a time when LeBron James , a close friend of Drake’s, has seemingly switched over to his rival Kendrick Lamar and others, Durant has chosen to stick to the Canadian rapper’s side. Booker seems to be following suit as basketball stars continue to link up with rappers.
Durant has often talked about his insistence on sticking with Drake despite the controversial rumors impacting his character. This link-up at the Wireless Festival was another confirmation that the Rockets star is not about to leave the rapper’s side, and now has his former teammate in tow.
When Durant was traded away to the Houston Rockets, Booker was the first to post a tribute video to his former teammate, and ironically, featuring a Drake song. This proves their bond was strong throughout the two and a half years they played together.
Some believe the two, along with Deandre Ayton and Chris Paul, were good enough to compete for titles. However, the Suns’ hierarchy believed they were better off with another star in the form of Bradley Beal.
That experiment became one of the most disastrous trades in the franchise’s history as now they have to buyout Beal’s contract to sever their ties with him. His reluctance to waive his no-trade clause has led to a situation where owner Mat Ishbia will have to fork out at least $40 million over the next few years.
Next season, Booker will be competing against his former teammates. Considering how he has proclaimed his friendship with Durant, their battles against each other next season should be epic.
Both will be in the Western Conference, which means they will face each other four times in the regular season. However, the Slim Reaper will likely have the upper hand, as he has a vastly superior squad around him.
Kevin Durant is about to enter year 19. Despite spending this long in the NBA and having achieved greatness, he is still motivated to continue playing at a high level as long as he can. He calls that an obsession, and elaborated on the Mind the Game podcast, what it takes to be dedicated.
You’ve got to be obsessed. It’s traits that you have to acquire as a human being in order for you to maintain what you got. If you truly really want to be great at basketball, as somebody who has done it, you have to be obsessed with wanting to get better every day.
