If there is anyone who knows what and how an Achilles injury feels like, it is none other than newly signed Houston Rockets star and NBA veteran Kevin Durant. Achilles injuries are common in basketball, as the tendon is under significant pressure during play. This was evident this past season, with stars like Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, and Tyrese Haliburton experiencing the same injury.
Since the Milwaukee Bucks waived him after he tore his Achilles tendon, Lillard has been a hot topic of conversation. Lillard is anticipated to miss most of the 2025–26 season after tearing his left Achilles tendon during the Bucks’ first-round playoff loss.
Kevin Durant disclosed that Lillard had contacted him for guidance on the healing process during a recent interview on the Mind the Game podcast. Not only Lillard, but also Tatum got in touch with Durant regarding this matter.
Of course, you know JT and Dame hit me up — I feel like I’m the Achilles guy. I feel like a lot of guys have bounced back and became themselves again. Mine is the most popular, but I feel like a lot of guys have bounced back…

Kevin Durant suffered his ruptured right Achilles tendon while competing for the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 NBA Finals. Despite missing the whole 2019–20 season, he inked a max contract with the Brooklyn Nets that offseason.
After making a comeback in the 2020–21 season, the 2013–14 NBA MVP has been selected to the All-Star team five times in a row. Durant is the only great who knows how to bounce back from a terrible Achilles injury, and his fellow NBA rivals are listening to him as they are on their road to recovery.
There were many expectations from the Phoenix Suns when they paired their Big 3 in Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. Unfortunately, for many reasons, their combination did not work out. However, the Suns did not update their squad to include their big three, and a recent revelation disclosed the players Durant wanted Phoenix to add to their team the previous season.
Simone Fontecchio, a forward with the Miami Heat now and a former member of the Detroit Pistons, stated in an interview with Basket News that Durant wanted the Suns to sign him the previous season.
During a break in the game, Durant came up to me and told me, ‘we tried everything we could to get you here, but we couldn’t do it.’ It was a great show of respect from a champion of the game and it made me realize how much he thought of me.

Although Fontecchio’s statement is unexpected, it makes sense because he would have been a good fit on Phoenix’s squad the previous season. In addition to being a reliable scorer, the 29-year-old forward would have given the Suns’ roster the bulk they sorely needed. That said, with Durant and Beal leaving the Suns, the Arizona-based franchise is building its team around Booker for the upcoming season.
While the NBA is known for its fierce competitiveness, one thing that does not fade away is the respect franchises have for each other. For context, the Boston Celtics have offered any kind of support from their side to the Indiana Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton, who ruptured his Achilles in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Mostly because the Celtics are dealing with a similar situation in Jayson Tatum. Celtics’ CEO Brad Stevens and VP of their basketball operations, Mike Zarren, made their feelings clear in a recent presser.
Mike and I were both in conversation with their GMs, like, ‘Anything we could do to help, let us know, because we’ve been through it.’

Brad Stevens mentioned that he and Mike Zarren reached out to the Pacers after Tyrese Haliburton's injury in Game 7 of the NBA Finals:

The Celtics star tore his Achilles in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals versus the New York Knicks. Tatum sustained the identical injury weeks before Haliburton. He was recently recovering in a pool after having surgery, not long after. The Celtics’ star man is probably going to miss the entire upcoming season as well.
