Kevin Durant fires back at fan's Oklahoma City Thunder request
Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

Kevin Durant’s narrative changed when he decided to bolt the Oklahoma City Thunder and play for the Golden State Warriors in 2016. A fan suggested to go back to his roots and win that franchise a ring, prompting an epic response from the All-Star forward.

Durant began his NBA journey as the second overall pick for the Seattle Supersonics in the 2007 Draft. In his rookie season, he showcased his dominance by averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, ultimately earning the Rookie of the Year award.

The following season marked the transition of the franchise to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where Durant teamed up with Russell Westbrook and James Harden. The trio made it to the NBA Finals in 2012 but fell short of capturing a championship against LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

Durant later faced criticism for his decision to join the Golden State Warriors, a move perceived as a weak choice. However, he went on to win two championships alongside Stephen Curry and the Warriors . In 2019, Durant moved to the Brooklyn Nets, and eventually orchestrated a trade to join the Phoenix Suns, forming an impressive trio with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal.

Despite high expectations, the Kevin Durant-led Suns failed to secure a top-three spot in the Western Conference during the regular season, finishing as the sixth seed with a 49-33 record. Their offense ranked ninth, their defense ranked 13th, and their bench unit proved to be a weakness.

These factors became evident during their first-round series against the Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves, where the Suns struggled with poor shooting, turnovers, and fewer offensive rebounds than their opponents. As a result, they were eliminated from the playoffs earlier than anticipated.

All-Star Forward Kevin Durant Drops Epic Response To Fan’s Oklahoma City Thunder Request

With several seasons of disappointing exits, some fans have projected that the only way Durant can save his career is go back and help OKC win a championship. The two-time NBA champion responded to one suggestion, as seen in a post on Instagram.

As it stands, Durant still has two years left in his contract with the Suns. But due to the construction of their roster, Phoenix’s front office can only trade him or Booker to drastically add quality players or accumulate draft picks because Beal has a no-trade clause.

It remains to be seen whether Durant can make his way to OKC or remain in Phoenix for the foreseeable future. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on the former MVP to see if he can make a meaningful run next season.
