Kevin Durant says Suns are 'starting to build something'

The Phoenix Suns are currently sixth in the Western Conference, but they're beginning to show signs of being the contending-level team we all expected.

Bradley Beal is enjoying a consistent run in the rotation. Kevin Durant has been exceptional all season. And Devin Booker continues to prove he's one of the better young talents in the league.

When speaking to Bleacher Report's Chris Haynes, Durant discussed the belief he has in the Suns and his teammates.

"I believe in this team, and we believe in one another," Durant said. "Yes, playing with Brad [Beal] and Book is new, but as far as the game itself, I have seen everything in this league. Everything has been thrown at me. I just want to see us continue to grow as a unit. I like our chemistry. Not just the three of us, but our whole team. I think we're starting to build something and form an identity. And that takes time and reps. Our coaching staff is doing a great job. I'm not promising anything, but I like our chances against anybody."

When on the court together, the Suns All-Star trio is fearsome.

According to Cleaning The Glass, the trio of Durant, Booker and Beal has played 945 possessions together. They have outscored their opponents by 9.5 points per 100 possessions. That puts them in the 91st percentile for scoring differential.

The Suns had a tough start to the season. Both Beal and Booker had injury issues, which increased pressure on Durant. Booker is currently dealing with an ankle injury. However, when everyone is healthy, the Suns are proving themselves a candidate to reach the NBA Finals.

Still, Phoenix won't have an easy road. The Denver Nuggets and L.A. Clippers both look like legitimate contenders. And the Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves are emerging as a disruptive force to the status quo.

Nevertheless, with the firepower that Durant, Booker and Beal provide, it's hard to overlook Phoenix. The Suns are an offensive juggernaut. Furthermore, Durant is likely keen on proving he can win a championship without Steph Curry. This season could be his best chance. He will need to rely on the fitness of Booker and Beal if he wants to add to his championship ring collection.
