The Houston Rockets maintained their perfect start to the NBA preseason.
The Houston Rockets were part of a high-octane matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans, but ultimately walked away with a 130-128 win.
While the Rockets won the game, Amen Thompson made the headlines for engaging in a fight with the Pelicans’ Jose Alvarado.
The two got into a heated scuffle during the second quarter, but neither was ejected from the preseason matchup.
Both stars went down to the floor, but Thompson allowed his anger to get the best of him as he threw a right-handed punch at Alvarado.
Former NBA player Evan Turner reacted to the scuffle and posted some advice for Thompson on X.
“Dear Amen, We know you are willing to fight and aren’t afraid. We want to see your next steps as a player.
“Your team needs you, y’all not loaded enough pause to be sitting on the sideline with a 4 game suspension cause you wanted to fight a welterweight,” Turner wrote.
This isn’t the first time that Thompson has engaged in an on-court fight. Thompson and Tyler Herro famously locked horns during a Miami Heat vs. Rockets game last season.
Despite that, Kevin Durant didn’t like Turner’s tweet as he responded: “Oh great. More unsolicited advice.”

Putting aside the obvious lapse of judgment in a heated moment, Amen had a phenomenal game for the Rockets.
The 22-year-old finished the game with 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists in just 24 minutes of playing time. Thompson also had a plus-minus of +11, highlighting his impact on the Rockets.
With the 2025-26 NBA season right around the corner, it’s time for Thompson to make a leap as a star and help the Rockets win an NBA Championship.
Thompson should consult head coach Ime Udoka and figure out how to become a consistent game-winner for the Rockets.
