Generally, as players get older and spend more time in the NBA (or any pro sport, for that matter), they get wiser and conduct themselves with more privacy, a bit more dignity. But new Rockets star Kevin Durant has never been one for keeping is Twitter finger quiet, to heck with privacy and dignity.
Durant was in a scrape on social media again on Sunday, and in the process, took a swipe at the Thunder for finally winning their first NBA championship in Oklahoma City, almost 10 years after Durant famously bolted the team to join the Golden State Warriors and hunt a rung with them (he won two there).
Early on Sunday morning, Durant inserted himself into a routine fan conversation, and was advised by a fan to stay off Twitter/X, "For your mental health which is clearly in a bad place rn."
Durant responded with, "How do you know where my mental is at?"
Another fan chimed in to say, "Where will your mental be opening night when you watch the team that gave you everything raise a banner after you left them high and dry?"
To which Durant fired back, "Finally. It’s been 10 years, bout time they win one lmaooo."

Durant later made it clear he was joking, and encouraged Thunder fans to lighten up: "My god, talk a little (expletive) back. It’s not that serious."
But the sting of Durant abandoning the Thunder is still very present for many Oklahoma City fans. Remember the circumstances: Durant not only chose to leave the Thunder immediately after the blew a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference finals to the Warriors, he chose to sign with that same Golden State team that summer.
Those Warriors won a league-record 73 games, and seeing as Durant has not come close to winning a championship since he left Golden State--he has not been back to the conference finals, even--staying out of Twitter battles might be a good idea.
