Kevin Durant won't return for remainder of NBA season in Orlando

Anyone waiting for Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant to return to the court is going to have to wait a little longer... likely until the 2020-21 campaign. Durant, who ruptured his Achilles during the 2019 NBA Finals, reportedly will not return to the court when the NBA season resumes at Walt Disney World in Orlando, according to Nets Daily and SNY's Anthony Puccio.

One source reiterated to Puccio that Durant is healthy, but there's concern in getting him back to the court with a shorter schedule in a shorter time period. Durant's rehab also was interrupted in March after testing positive for the coronavirus and then again when restrictions were placed on team facilities.

Durant and his agent Rich Kleiman have said multiple times throughout the season that a return for the 31-year-old is unlikely, but the season pause caused speculation that maybe he'd return to the court and help the Nets compete for a title this season.

There's been no word on whether or not Kyrie Irving would return this summer after recovering from shoulder impingement surgery, but it seems like they'll hold him out too if Durant does, in fact, remain out of the lineup.

With the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign set to run from the end of July to October, next years season isn't expected to begin until December. If that's the case, Durant would go 20 months without having played a single second of basketball, and that could prove challenging for a New York team trying to win a title.
