Kevin Durant’s hamstring injury was worse than initially feared

Kevin Durant hasn’t played a game as a member of the Brooklyn Nets since Feb. 13 when he suffered a hamstring strain against the Golden State Warriors.

Considering that Durant missed all of last season after suffering a torn Achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals, Brooklyn is understandably approaching the entire situation with a ton of caution.

This week, Alex Schiffer of The Athletic provided a scary update regarding Durant’s hamstring strain.

“Kevin Durant said he thought his hamstring strain was a Grade 1 and that he could play and then saw the scan and realized it was a little deeper than he thought,” he wrote.

The fact that Durant’s injury was worse than expected not only explains why he has been out for so long, but also why the Nets are being so cautious with it.

This week, Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash offered his thoughts on Durant’s current condition.

“Kevin is doing very well,” Nash said, per Malika Andrews of ESPN. “If this was the playoffs, there’s a chance he’d be back very soon, but there’s no point in taking a big risk with him when the most important thing is to get him back for the remainder of the season.”

One potential benefit of Durant returning to the basketball court is that it’ll get him off the internet.

The 32-year-old was just fined $50,000 over leaked DMs he sent to sometimes-actor Michael Rapaport. Beyond that he also got exposed for being a bad friend by Wiz Khalifa, was busted for creeping on Oklahoma track star Brooke Thomas’ page, and engaged in a memorable beef with Charles Barkley.

Frankly, for his own sanity, Durant returning to the court as quickly as possible should be everyone’s top priority.
