Kevin Durant showed something in his interaction with Houston Rockets star Reed Sheppard that he hasn’t done with many other previous teammates.

The Houston Rockets continued their impressive start to the NBA season on Sunday night, when they defeated the Orlando Magic in overtime.

The Rockets won a thrilling overtime battle against the Magic, one that showed they have the right closer after landing Kevin Durant this summer.

The former NBA champion is clearly enjoying playing with his supporting cast. Durant marveled at the talent Alperen Sengun has and how easy it is to play with him.

But it was the trust and faith he showed in another teammate, Reed Sheppard, that had Tim Legler realizing how different their dynamic is.

Reed Sheppard is earning Kevin Durant and Houston Rockets’ confidence

Tim Legler spoke on his podcast about what he has seen from the Houston Rockets this season, especially in their outing against the Orlando Magic.

He believes that Sheppard’s strong shooting over the last few games has inspired trust and confidence among Kevin Durant and his Houston Rockets team.

“This is what I’m seeing with Reed Sheppard: he’s starting to elicit the confidence of his stars.

“That three you’re talking about, that step-back was right in front of Houston’s bench; I was fascinated by Kevin Durant’s reaction to that.

“He stood up, turned around, and looked at the coaching staff like, ‘Man, this dude is a bad boy out here.’ That’s kind of the look he had.

“And you could kind of see the smirk on Reed Sheppard’s face when he ran back on defense; he was kind of smiling. He’s gaining confidence; it’s happening right in front of our eyes.”

Reed Sheppard has been stellar from beyond the arc

Over the last five games, Reed Sheppard has been putting up brilliant numbers for the Houston Rockets. His three-point shooting has really improved over the last few weeks.

Over the last five games, Sheppard has shot above 50% from deep, and had just one game where he shot under 40% from beyond the arc.

@ SAS, 11/7/2025 4/7 57.1%

Sheppard has credited Durant for instilling confidence in him, and that confidence is starting to show in his numbers from game to game.

Sheppard could become the Rockets’ reliable sharpshooter this season, as they look to make a championship push.
