Kevin Durant’s Social Media Post Signals Potential Reunion With Russell Westbrook
- Kevin Durant turns up the charm in Houston, flirting with Kay Adams over barbecue and basketball. Fans are buzzing—has KD found love off the court?

Houston Rockets Power Forward Kevin Durant’s social media post is signaling a potential reunion with free agent point guard Russell Westbrook. Here’s why.

Kevin Durant’s Post Signals Potential Reunion

Durant hasn’t won an NBA title since winning back-to-back NBA titles with the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018. He now has a new opportunity with the Houston Rockets. The Phoenix Suns traded him to the Rockets in a seven-team trade on July 7. The Rockets are going all-in with the 37-year-old, who’s on an expiring contract.

The Rockets haven’t signed Russell Westbrook yet. However, Durant posted a photo of them together with the late Kobe Bryant on September 29, which was his 37th birthday. This post has convinced some fans that Westbrook, 36, should return to Houston. The 36-year-old played for the Rockets in 2020-21.

KD’s Outlook

His outlook heading into the 2025-26 NBA season appears to be bright. He is reportedly bonding with young Houston Rockets star Jabari Smith Jr. Smith, 22, is entering his fourth season after earning a five-year, $122 million contract on June 30. Smith’s production leans towards defense and rebounding, but the Rockets believe the 22-year-old can expand his offensive game.

Durant has praised Smith’s offseason work and hinted their bond is only growing stronger. His mentorship can help Smith expand his offensive game. The former second overall pick can also shift the Rockets’ offense in more ways than one.

Final Thoughts

Durant reuniting with Westbrook seems unlikely. However, Westbrook recently liked an Instagram post of his former Oklahoma City Thunder teammates, Durant and Steven Adams. If the Houston Rockets make space for Westbrook, the Rockets would likely trade Small Forward Jae’Sean Tate or Guard Aaron Holiday. Westbrook would be a mentor to young star Reed Sheppard as he becomes the future point guard of the team.

Westbrook is reportedly exploring his options, but joining the Rockets and winning an NBA title with Durant and Adams would be a great way to end his NBA career.
