With the 2025 NBA Draft now complete, the league shifts its focus to the summer league. Fans won’t have to wait long to see new talent hit the court as opening night tips off July 5.
Among the most anticipated debuts are top rookies Cooper Flagg, Dylan Harper and Kon Knueppel. The NBA summer league also provides valuable minutes for second-year players who didn’t get many opportunities in their rookie seasons.
That includes Bronny James, who was officially announced as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers' summer league roster earlier this week.
That news immediately sparked buzz, especially with the highly anticipated matchup between James and Mavericks rookie Flagg. The two are set to face off in Dallas’ first summer league game.
One of the most excited voices online was none other than NBA legend Kevin Garnett. The 1995 first-round pick took to Instagram to react to the Flagg vs. Bronny showdown.
"Awwwww [expletive]... Just got the summer league schedule and I see that got BRONNY VS THE FLAG.. FIRST NIGHT TYPE ISHHHH..." Garnett wrote.
He followed that up with a bold prediction: "The energy in the building is about to be crazy."
Bronny James appeared in 27 games during his first season, averaging 6.7 minutes, 2.3 points and 0.7 rebounds per game. He also made two postseason appearances but didn’t score.
Flagg, who played one season at Duke, impressed from the start. Despite missing two ACC Tournament games due to an ankle injury, he suited up for 37 games overall and averaged 19.2 points. His final game was a 70-67 loss to Houston in the Final Four, where he logged 27 points and seven rebounds in 36 minutes.
The summer league matchup between the Lakers and Mavericks is scheduled for July 10 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN.
