Tyrese Maxey has emerged as the most important player for the Philadelphia 76ers this season.

The Philadelphia 76ers have surpassed expectations with a 4-0 start to the 2025-26 NBA season as they hold the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.

Moreover, it’s not Paul George or Joel Embiid who has led the 76ers to this impressive record; it’s Tyrese Maxey.

Kevin Garnett thinks Tyrese Maxey wants to be in MVP competition

The 2025-26 NBA MVP race is expected to feature the likes of Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, and Victor Wembanyama.

Of course, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will be a mainstay in the NBA MVP race as well. But Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett thinks Maxey wants his name there as well.

“Tyrese Maxey wants in on early MVP talks… keep going, bro,” Garnett tweeted on X.

For context, Maxey is currently averaging 37.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game while shooting 45.5% from the field and 47.4% from the three-point line. Talk about a terrific start!

Maxey currently leads the league in scoring as well as minutes per game (43.0). If all goes well, the soon-to-be 25-year-old star may emerge as an early MVP favorite.

Quentin Grimes’ true feelings on the Philadelphia 76ers

Before the 2025-26 NBA season started, Quentin Grimes‘ future was uncertain with the 76ers. After weeks of negotiations, Grimes ended up signing an $8.7 million qualifying offer with the team.

As a result, the rumor mill suggests that Grimes is guaranteed to leave the 76ers next summer. Despite that, Grimes’ recent tweet about the 76ers suggests otherwise.

The 25-year-old seems happy with the 76ers due to their sensational start to the season. Additionally, Grimes has been involved behind the scenes with the organization.

All these point to Grimes being elated with the 76ers, and unless the franchise presents a low-ball offer, it’s hard to see him leaving Philly.
