Kevin Love expected at Jazz camp despite buyout rumors

Kevin Love is headed to training camp with the Jazz, after all. Or so it seems.

Grant Afseth of RG.org reports that while there was talk earlier this month about Love seeking a buyout, the Jazz have not engaged in serious discussions on that front.

Instead, the plan is for the veteran forward to report when camp opens.

Love, 37, landed in Utah from Miami as part of a three-team trade in July. He’s entering the final season of his contract at $4.15 million, and given the Jazz’s rebuild, it’s unlikely he’ll play a major on-court role.

Still, Utah values what he can provide — leadership, professionalism and a steady presence for a young roster. His expiring deal could also come in handy in a trade.

Love averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 23 games with the Heat last season, both career lows.

Whether he suits up long-term for the Jazz or becomes a target for playoff contenders down the road, he’s expected to be in camp.
