Kevin Love could be heading back to the West Coast.
According to NBA Insider Brett Siegel, the veteran big man has expressed interest in joining a team in Los Angeles, where both the Lakers and Clippers are expected to have roster flexibility for veteran additions.
“Word around the league surrounding Love is that he wants to end up in Los Angeles,” Siegel reported. “There were some rumors that Love would want to go to New York, although there doesn’t seem to be much interest brewing from the Knicks.”
Love, 35, is currently an unrestricted free agent after spending the past season with the Miami Heat. While he played a limited role off the bench, he continued to provide veteran leadership, floor spacing, and rebounding in key moments, traits that could prove valuable for either L.A. team as they bolster their depth heading into the 2025-26 campaign.
Currently, Love is set to start next season with the Utah Jazz. He's got one year left on his contract for $4.1 million, but it's no secret that he'd rather skip a Jazz tenure to play in a bigger market team in Los Angeles or New York. The Knicks have limited interest in the 2016 NBA champion, and it gives the L.A. teams a perfect opportunity to add a veteran big man who can rebound, stretch the floor, and deliver elite outlet passes on the fast-break.
For the Lakers, Love would be a solid addition to their star-studded roster. While he only averaged 5.3 points per game last season, he could provide a major boost off the bench for a rotation that's relatively thin in the frontcourt. With Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes patrolling the rim, Love could focus solely on spacing the floor and stretching opposing offenses.
Best of all, Love would get to reunite with his former teammate, LeBron James. They won a championship together in Cleveland, and the two have been tight ever since. While both players are much older now, they could use their prior experience together and their established chemistry to maximize each other's game.
Meanwhile, Love would be another high-profile veteran on a Clippers roster full of proven talent. Despite losing Paul George and other key players in recent years, the Clippers have recovered by adding Bradley Beal, John Collins, and even Chris Paul to help set a culture in the locker room.
Love could join that elite group of veterans for his best chance to win another ring, and his skills in the frontcourt should provide a spark for the Clippers' second unit. At the very least, he'll open up the floor for his teammates to help improve the rhythm and flow of the offense.
Of course, as an active member of the Utah Jazz, Love may not end up with either team. With Love, Utah hopes to establish a winning culture in the locker room, even though they aren't expected to be competitive next season.
As one of the most respected veterans left on the market, Kevin Love still brings value to any team looking for size, shooting, and experience. Whether it’s with LeBron and the Lakers or a veteran-heavy Clippers squad, a move to Los Angeles would not only align with Love’s reported preference, it could also be the final chapter in a storied NBA career that began over 15 years ago.
