Russell Westbrook and the Sacramento Kings took another loss on Monday. They suffered a 120-94 blowout defeat to the New Orleans Pelicans on the road, marking Sacramento’s 13th straight loss.

Westbrook played 21 minutes against the Pelicans. The former NBA MVP finished with 17 points on 7-of-17 shooting, two rebounds, two assists and one three-pointer. It was far from enough to help lift the Kings out of their slump.

Sacramento’s next chance to snap its losing skid comes on Wednesday. They will face the 17-37 Utah Jazz, currently one of the worst teams in the NBA this season. At 12-43, however, no other team has a worse record than the Kings.

Westbrook is having a big year with the Kings. After agreeing a one-year deal with the team during the offseason, the nine-time All-Star has established himself as a key player for Sacramento.

Westbrook has played 52 games this season (46 stars). He is averaging 15.3 points on 43.0% shooting, 5.7 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.3 steals in 29.3 minutes per contest. The 37-year-old is also knocking down 2.1 triples per game on a 34.5% clip.

Unfortunately for the Kings, they will need to face the Jazz on Wednesday without Westbrook. The team announced via the official injury report that Westbrook will not play against Utah due to a sore left ankle.

As of writing, the Kings have not provided the full details of Westbrook’s injury. It appears to be a new issue for the 18-year veteran, though.

Wednesday’s matchup against the Jazz is Sacramento’s last game before the All-Star break. Westbrook’s next chance to play will be on Feb. 19 against the Orlando Magic.
