Kings 'Expect To Compete for a Championship' in the 2023-24 NBA Season
USA TODAY Sports

The Sacramento Kings have begun their 2023 preseason campaign as training camp is underway. With so many questions around the Kings squad during the off-season, the Sacramento front office pleased the fanbase with championship-minded moves.

The Kings successfully brought back nine of their top 11 scorers from their historic 2022-23 season while bringing in exceptional depth pieces like F Sasha Vezenkov, G Chris Duarte, and C JaVale McGee

After 16 playoff-less seasons in Sacramento, the Kings now have one goal in mind: an NBA championship.

Kings GM Monte McNair spoke on how the success of last season changes their mindset heading forward (via @SeanCunningham / X):

"It's great to have some tangible success to lean on, you know last year at this time it was 'Can you break the playoff drought?' You know, 'What's your contract status?'...Now it's, 'How can you actually just repeat what you did last year?'...For us, for our staff, all the things that we've built over those first three years to finally come and see some fruits of our labor, we know we're not done but it was certainly step one of what we hope is a long process into championship contention for us."

McNair is who Kings fans should thank for a successful 2023 off-season, but HC Mike Brown is who to thank for the regular season success. Brown knows that his team is more than capable of winning a championship.

Led by All-NBA duo G De'Aaron Fox and C Domantas Sabonis , the Kings have found their stride and have built a well-rounded roster around their stars. Fox, like Brown and McNair, believes this team is ready to compete for a championship (via @MattGeorgeSAC / X):

"We have high expectations for ourselves. We all want to win a championship, that's our next goal...I'm sure everybody in here has individual goals but I think they all stem back to us being a better team... We're trying to come in from day one and we're trying to achieve that goal."

Kings fans should be excited about the culture shift in Sacramento, as last year, they were just worried about making the playoffs, and this year, they only care about winning a championship.
