Kings' Injury Situation Just Got Worse

The Sacramento Kings just can't catch a break when it comes to injuries.

Last week, the Kings lost both Domantas Sabonis and Zach LaVine to injuries. Sabonis had to undergo surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee. The big man picked up the issue in November and had to sit out for 27 straight games as he attempted to recover from it, albeit to no avail.

Meanwhile, LaVine opted to have surgery on his right hand to address a tendon injury. He has since been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

There's also De'Andre Hunter, whom the Kings acquired from the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the trade deadline. During their game against the Los Angeles Clippers in early February, Hunter suffered a retinal detachment, requiring surgery.

Now, on Wednesday, the Kings lost another starter in Keegan Murray due to a health setback.

Murray played just eight minutes against the Houston Rockets after he hurt his left ankle while trying to block Clint Capela under the basket. Replay of the incident showed Murray landing awkwardly, resulting in the injury.

While Murray was able to walk on his own, he was brought to the locker room and didn't return. The Kings ended up getting blown out by the Rockets, 128-97.

Murray had three points, one rebound and one block prior to his injury exit.

It remains to be seen how long Murray will be sidelined, but it's worth noting that the young forward already had two lengthy absences this 2025-26 season.

Murray missed the first 15 games of the campaign as he recovered from surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. He then missed 20 straight games beginning in January and actually just returned last week.

Murray is one of the Kings' key players. Prior to the Rockets game, he was putting up 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.1 steals and 1.6 blocks per contest.

It will be interesting to see what the Kings do next amid their injury woes. They recently signed former lottery pick Killian Hayes to a 10-day contract to bring in a healthy body, and it's likely they will bring in additional players to make sure they have enough depth in their remaining games.

DeMar DeRozan and Russell Westbrook are now expected to do more for the Kings offensively amid all their injuries. However, young players such as Maxime Raynaud, Nique Clifford and two-way contract player Patrick Baldwin Jr., among others, are projected to step up and have increased roles for Sacramento.

Sacramento dropped to 13-47 on the season with their latest loss. They remain the worst team in the NBA record-wise, and it's unlikely that this will change considering their recent struggles.
