Kings Interested in Trading for Celtics Star

After making the playoffs in 2023 for the first time since 2006, the Sacramento Kings have missed the postseason two years in a row.

And to make matters worse, the franchise doesn't have a star point guard anymore after trading De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs in February.

Meanwhile, the 2025 playoffs were tough for the Boston Celtics, who won the championship last year against the Dallas Mavericks. Not only did the New York Knicks beat the Celtics in this year's conference semifinals, but Jayson Tatum also tore his right Achilles tendon in Game 4.

Tatum could miss all of next season recovering from his Achilles tear. If the Celtics don't make any changes to the roster this summer, their payroll for next season could exceed $500 million.

According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Kings are interested in trading for Boston starting point guard Jrue Holiday. A two-time champion, Holiday will make $32.4 million next season.

There have been a few rumors going around that the Celtics could trade Holiday this summer to lower their payroll.

"Holiday is a veteran player the Kings have interest in, sources said," Siegel wrote. "Whether or not Holiday is made available in trade talks by Boston is the ultimate question. New GM Scott Perry has made it clear his team needs a true point guard, and he was always a fan of Holiday when he worked with the Knicks.

"Perry wanted to explore the possibility of adding Holiday in New York before he was traded to the Bucks in 2020, sources said."

Holiday averaged 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Celtics this season. He then put up 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game in the 2025 postseason in seven games against the Orlando Magic and Knicks.

A UCLA product, Holiday has career averages of 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics.
