The Sacramento Kings surprised many fans last month by announcing the signing of veteran forward Juan Toscano-Anderson to fill their last roster spot. JTA has had an incredible story, from playing his first career NBA game when he was 26 years old to becoming the first NBA player of Mexican descent to win a championship.
The newest King can help out a young Sacramento squad on and off the court, even with limited minutes behind a solidified rotation. Despite logging three DNPs in just 11 appearances as a King, Toscano-Anderson keeps his head up with a team-first mentality.
Toscano-Anderson sat down with us to discuss his latest episode of the docuseries "The Break, Presented by the General" and how his experience as a King has been since signing last month. We asked what his biggest takeaway has been since becoming a King.
"The vibes here are elite, and the culture here," Juan said. "It's a great group of guys from the top down, so that's been very fun to be a part of. Even outside of Xs and Os, and wins and losses, it's a fun place to come and work."
JTA is on the fourth NBA team of his career in Sacramento, going from the Golden State Warriors to the Los Angeles Lakers to the Utah Jazz, but he might have found his best home as a King. A significant part of Kings' culture has been "The Beam," so we asked him for his perspective on lighting "The Beam."
"I think it's pretty cool, I think it's something everybody gets excited about," Juan continued. "It makes it more enticing to win. Winning is already enticing enough, but it's kind of like 'Oh you get dessert after dinner if you eat your dinner.' It's something that brings everybody together: fans, spectators, the players, everybody in the organization, and the city of Sacramento."
The Kings fanbase has embraced Toscano-Anderson despite his short time in Sacramento, and he has done the same. While the Kings' signing of JTA might be a short-term move, Toscano-Anderson is a class act and embodies Sacramento's culture.
