The Sacramento Kings have had a busy offseason thus far as they have made multiple moves to upgrade their roster to compete for a playoff spot in the loaded Western Conference this season.
Of course, many around the NBA expected the Kings to begin a rebuild this offseason after trading De’Aaron Fox last season but that has not been the case.
Instead, the Kings have elected to keep their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine together and they have also made some notable additions to their roster.
Sacramento selected both Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud during the 2025 draft and they also signed Dennis Schroder in free agency to fill their void at the starting point guard position.
By making these moves, the Kings are hoping to make a run at a playoff spot this season, though it may be tough for them to do with the amount of talent in the West.
While the Kings have made multiple moves already this offseason, they have also been linked to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga.
It has been reported that the Kings offered Kuminga a contract in free agency earlier this summer but the Warriors turned down their trade offer of Malik Monk and a protected first-round pick as it did not meet their high asking price for their young forward.
Due to this, Sacramento has failed to land Kuminga and if they want to do so, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel believes that they will have to include one of their key young players in trade talks.
On Wednesday, Siegel posted on X that the Kings may have to include Keegan Murray in trade talks for Kuminga if they want to pull off a trade with the Warriors, though he mentioned that it is unlikely to happen.
If they offered Keegan, that changes everything, but it’s not happening.

Kings offer is Monk and that future protected first. Maybe they could take protections off, but I still don’t think it changes anything. https://t.co/UCc7Dd0gUM
Siegel also mentioned that the Kings could also remove the protection from the first-round pick they offered in the original trade, though it is unlikely that the Warriors will change their minds on the original trade.
With Siegel’s report, it appears as though the only way for the Kings to pull off a trade with the Warriors for Kuminga is to include Murray in trade talks, which is unlikely to happen as they view their young forward as a key piece to their future.
Because of this, it appears as though the Kings may be out of the running in the Kuminga sweepstakes unless the Warriors lower their high asking price for him.
