It is set to be an interesting offseason for the Sacramento Kings after another disappointing season.
Sacramento is coming off a season in which they finished ninth in the Western Conference but failed to make the playoffs after being eliminated in the Play-In Tournament by the Dallas Mavericks.
Of course, it was a season of change for the Kings as they fired head coach Mike Brown in the December then traded star guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline in the same deal that landed them Zach LaVine from the Chicago Bulls.
Now the Kings enter the offseason with some key decisions to make that could include them moving on from one of their star players in either DeMar DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis or Lavine.
While the Kings have a tough decision to make on that front, a recent report suggests that they are also looking to make a move before the 2025 NBA Draft.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Kings are shopping Malik Monk and Devin Carter on the trade market as they try to acquire a first-round pick in the upcoming draft.
“The Kings have expressed a desire to acquire a first-round pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote. “Amid those conversations, Sacramento has gauged the trade market on guards Malik Monk and Devin Carter, sources said.”

This is a massive report by Scotto as it appears the Kings are doing everything they can to land a first-round pick in the 2025 draft after their original pick was deferred to the Atlanta Hawks due to a prior trade.
While it is not surprising that the Kings are willing to move Monk this offseason, especially after putting together arguably the best season of his career, it is surprising to see Carter be a named mentioned in trade rumors.
Of course, Carter was the Kings’ first-round pick in 2024 but he did struggle during his rookie season after coming off a shoulder injury.
Because of this, it appears as though Sacramento is open to moving him as they hope to acquire a first-round pick in the 2025 draft.
