Kings Trade Former Raptors Forward Jalen McDaniels To Spurs

Jalen McDaniels is on the move again.

The Sacramento Kings are trading the former Toronto Raptors and a second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Spurs are expected to waive McDaniels, per Charania:

The Kings traded Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov, the draft rights to Jamal Shead and a 2025 second-round pick via the Portland Trail Blazers for McDaniels back in June.

One of the main reasons why the Kings completed the trade was to get out of Vezenkov’s contract.

However, the Raptors bought out Vezenkov who left the entire $6.6M salary on the able, which means the Raptors owe him nothing and they cleared him entirely from the books.

For the Kings this is a bit of a confusing move since they traded for McDaniels but then had to attach an additional second-rounder to get rid of him when Vezenkov was bought out for nothing.

The move for the Kings will give them open roster flexibility for a potential addition down the line.

The 26-year-old never developed into the type of player the Raptors were hoping for. He saw a massive dip in his shooting percentages last season, shooting 34.4 percent from the field and 16.9 percent. In his lone season in Toronto, McDaniels averaged 3.4 points in 50 games with the team.

McDaniels has averaged 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds over his first five seasons in the NBA.
