Kiyan Anthony Claims He Is A Better Shooter Than Carmelo Was At His Age

Kiyan Anthony, the son of NBA legend Carmelo Anthony, has confidently stated that he is a better shooter than his father was at his age. During an appearance on the Sloane Knows podcast, Kiyan discussed the similarities and differences between his game and his father’s.

"The way we score is kind of similar, like shooting and getting to the basket. I looked at his highlights and I looked at my highlights and it’ll be like some similarity there. I feel like I shoot a little better than him at this age."

"He was a little bit taller and he got to the basket a little more so I feel like I could shoot a little better shooter than him."

As a top prospect in the 2025 recruiting class, Kiyan has already shown glimpses of his potential, drawing comparisons to his father’s renowned scoring ability. However, when it comes to shooting, the younger Anthony believes he holds an edge over Carmelo during his teenage years.

While acknowledging that their overall scoring styles are quite similar, Kiyan highlighted one key area where he feels he excels beyond his father: shooting. He added that while Carmelo, who was taller and stronger in high school, frequently finished at the rim, he has honed his outside shooting.

Kiyan has already made a name for himself with his shooting ability, showcasing his talents on the Nike EYBL U17 circuit. Despite shooting only 31.1% from three-point range, his smooth and natural shooting mechanics have drawn praise, indicating that he could develop into an elite three-point shooter. Averaging 20.3 points per game during the competition, Kiyan demonstrated versatility in scoring, with his jumper being a central aspect of his game.

While Kiyan acknowledges the similarities in how he and Carmelo attack the basket and score, he emphasizes that his father’s strengths as a young player were different. Carmelo, who was more physically dominant during his high school years, relied heavily on driving to the basket and finishing at the rim, something that made him a force in his early basketball days. In contrast, Kiyan's game revolves more around perimeter shooting and creating space to get off shots from beyond the arc.

Carmelo Anthony, known for his mid-range scoring and ability to hit clutch shots throughout his illustrious NBA career, has likely passed on valuable insights to his son. However, Kiyan’s assertion that he is a more proficient shooter at this stage highlights the evolution of the game and the emphasis on three-point shooting that defines modern basketball.

As Kiyan Anthony continues to develop, it will be exciting to see if his shooting ability can truly surpass his father's legacy, and whether he can carve out his own path in the basketball world while drawing on the lessons Carmelo has taught him.
