Klay Thompson got to practice with Cooper Flagg for the first time, and the Dallas Mavericks rookie made an impression.
The Dallas Mavericks are set for what could be a very interesting season. The franchise begins a new era, one that will be defined by Cooper Flagg.
Flagg becomes the next face of the Mavericks after having the mantle passed down to him by an unwilling and unassuming Luka Doncic.
Flagg earned Dirk Nowitzki’s endorsement early on, but the young star is going to have to live up to the hype from day one.
If his first practice with the Dallas Mavericks is anything to go by, the young star might be set for a brilliant rookie season.
Klay Thompson spoke to reporters after the Dallas Mavericks’ first practice ahead of their preseason games.
Thompson was in awe of rookie Cooper Flagg, especially since he didn’t miss a single training drill, despite how taxing they can be on the body.
“Cooper did great. I’m most impressed he did not sit out one drill. I don’t care how many shots he misses, how many mistakes he makes.
“The fact that he’s in there and he’s competing every single drill, that’s what impresses me.”
Flagg himself spoke about this first training session with his new team, and what he learned from the experience of playing with some all-time great NBA stars.

Cooper Flagg couldn’t contain his anticipation after his first Dallas Mavericks practice, admitting how excited he was to get the season started.
“I’m ready! I’m excited, but I’m trying to take it one step at a time, enjoy every process, every step of the way. So, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’m really excited.
Cooper Flagg speaks after his first official NBA practice. He discusses his readiness to get on the court, the Mavericks’ size in the frontcourt and how good they can be defensively:

Some believe that the rookie will make an instant impact on the Mavericks. However, Flagg could witness a frustrating Mavericks season, given their roster’s injury concerns.
While there was hope that he might return soon, Jason Kidd claimed that Kyrie Irving isn’t ahead of schedule and would take some time to get back to the court.
However, Nico Harrison’s prior claims about Kyrie suggest otherwise, which hints at some turmoil within the organization that could be lingering from the controversial Luka Doncic trade.
It’s best if Flagg rises above the internal drama within the Mavericks and just focuses on his game, as he doesn’t want to let politics jeopardize his career.
