Thompson pays tribute to Curry for breaking three-point record

Klay Thompson could not be at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night to see it in person, but the rehabbing Golden State Warriors superstar of course later paid tribute to longtime teammate and fellow Splash Brother Stephen Curry for breaking the NBA all-time three-point record.

The Warriors sharpshooter broke Ray Allen’s previous record for made three-pointers in a career when he drained a shot from beyond the arc during the first quarter against the New York Knicks in a 105-96 win. The triple gave Curry 2,974 made threes in his Hall of Fame career.

Curry shot 5-of-14 on three-pointers and scored 22 points overall in Tuesday’s win. Curry now has 2,977 career three-pointers made.

On Wednesday, Thompson, currently putting the finishing touches on a recovery from an Achilles injury last year, gave Curry a heartfelt shout-out on social media.

Footage surfaced of Curry personally presenting engraved Rolex watches to Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala after Tuesday’s game in recognition of their integral contributions to his remarkable achievement. Since Thompson could not be in attendance, he will receive his custom Rolex once Golden State returns home from their road trip.

The four teammates of course led the Warriors to three NBA titles (2015, 2017, 2018) during the team’s outstanding Finals run.

Thompson will soon rejoin his Warriors teammates back on the court as the team continues to reassert itself as one of the NBA’s elite squad after one down season.

While the Warriors reportedly “haven’t decided internally” what the exact timetable is for Thompson’s return, it’s believed it could happen in the next week or two. With the Warriors sitting at a Western Conference-best 23-5, getting Thompson back in the rotation will make the team that much more formidable.
