The New York Knicks are looking to finish the final two weeks of the NBA regular season strong and secure the third seed entering the playoffs. The Knicks remain a legitimate contender in the Eastern Conference capable of making a run to the NBA Finals.

To do that, they will need to stay healthy, and that includes point guard Jalen Brunson, the team’s offensive engine. Brunson remains one of the best scorers and playmakers in the league due to his masterful footwork and high basketball IQ.

Through his first 70 games this season, the 29‑year‑old left-handed sharpshooter has averaged 26.1 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists while shooting 46.5% from the field and 37.1% from beyond the arc.

However, on Wednesday ahead of their game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Brunson was unable to suit up. He was listed as questionable due to right ankle soreness and was ruled out hours before tip-off (h/t Stefan Bondy of The New York Post).

Fortunately for New York, the Knicks were able to secure the win without him, defeating Memphis 130‑119. Brunson’s right ankle has repeatedly appeared on the injury report, forcing him to miss a game in March as well, but the issue does not appear to be serious.

The Knicks know his value during the postseason, which likely contributed to the decision to sit him on Wednesday. Ahead of Friday’s matchup at home against the Chicago Bulls, the Knicks announced their injury report and Brunson was removed entirely, indicating he will return to action.

This is a reassuring development for New York, as Brunson’s impact is undeniable. Now in his fourth year with the Knicks, he has earned three All‑Star selections, two All‑NBA honors and has routinely finished in the top 10 in MVP voting. If New York reaches its ceiling and makes the NBA Finals, it will be because of him.

With Brunson’s ankle trending in the right direction and the roster getting healthier, the Knicks can refocus on finishing the season the way a contender should.
