Josh Hart remained out of commission on Friday night as the New York Knicks suffered a disappointing 111-99 loss to the Atlanta Hawks.
Jalen Brunson tried to carry the shorthanded Knicks as Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson all sat out with respective injuries. Brunson dropped a game-high 24 points on 10-of-23 from the field, to go along with two rebounds, five assists, a steal and one triple in 35 minutes of play. It wasn’t enough as New York lost its second straight game.
After the loss, the Knicks shared an update on Hart’s status as the 6-foot-5 guard continues to recover from an ankle injury.
The last time Hart saw action for New York was on Christmas Day. He was forced to exit the Knicks’ 126-124 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the fourth quarter due to what was later diagnosed as a sprained right ankle.
Hart sat out for a third straight game on Friday, and he is now set to spend some more time on the shelf. This is after the Knicks announced after the Hawks loss that Hart will miss at least one more week.
The silver lining for Hart is that he has reportedly been doing some light court work, per reporter Ian Begley of SNY. The Knicks said the 30-year-old will be re-evaluated in 1 week.
This means that Hart will miss at least three more games. He will sit out Saturday against the Philadelphia 76ers, Monday against the Detroit Pistons and Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Assuming that he is cleared to play after his re-evaluation, his first chance to return would be next Friday, Jan. 9, against the Phoenix Suns.
New York fell to 23-11 after Friday’s loss. They remain second in the Eastern Conference behind the 25-9 Pistons.
