Forward OG Anunoby is off to a strong start for the New York Knicks. The 28-year-old wing is now in his ninth NBA season, but his third year as a member of the Knicks. He continues to have a big impact on the game without the ball in his hands.

Anunoby plays elite defense and makes smart, efficient contributions on offense. He is one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, able to guard multiple positions and disrupt passing lanes without fouling. On offense, he scores within the flow of the game, hitting shots beyond the arc, finishing at the rim and rarely forcing bad shots.

Throughout his first 11 appearances this year, Anunoby has posted 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.1 steals while shooting 48.3% from the field and 39.7% from three-point range.

During Friday’s game against the Miami Heat, Anunoby’s momentum came to an abrupt halt. Anunoby logged just five minutes before exiting Friday’s game, finishing with two points on 1-of-4 shooting and three rebounds. He headed to the bench and was later taken to the locker room for evaluation after appearing to tweak something early in the first quarter.

Moments later, the Knicks announced he would not return to the game after suffering a left hamstring strain. “OG Anunoby (left hamstring strain) is out for the remainder of the game,” the team wrote on X.

The Knicks have high expectations this season under head coach Mike Brown, who was hired this offseason to lead the franchise back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999. If Anunoby misses time, it could disrupt the team’s rhythm and force others to step into larger roles. His availability will continue to be monitored closely.

With two days off before their next game, Anunoby’s next chance to suit up would be Monday in a rematch against the Heat. However, given the nature of hamstring injuries and his importance to the team’s long-term goals, New York may choose to be cautious. Anunoby is a huge reason the Knicks entered Friday as the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 7–4 record.
