New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson on Sunday reacted to all the mockery he has dealt with online.
Robinson has been the butt of several jokes throughout the Knicks’ Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Boston Celtics. The seven-year pro has shot a gruesome 7/23 (30.4%) from the free throw line through the series’ first three games. Some of Robinson’s misses have been meme-worthy, to say the least.
The Western Kentucky alum even airballed a free throw during Game 3 in front of Knicks fans at Madison Square Garden. Robinson immediately buried his face in his hands due to the embarrassment.
Robinson addressed his haters in an Instagram post during the day off between Games 3 and 4 (Note: the video contains some profanity).
“So, I know y’all commenting and doing all the stupid stuff, thinking that I really care,” Robinson said.
“I really don’t. Y’all know what I care about: this motherf----- (his truck), playing basketball, and my daughter. All the other stuff, I really don’t care for. … Y’all should know me by now. Been here 7 years. … Anyway, Happy Mother’s Day. Y’all enjoy yourselves.”
Robinson’s 23 free throw attempts are by far the most taken by a single player through three games of the Knicks-Celtics series. That’s the case despite him serving a bench role in head coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotation.
The Celtics hacked Robinson constantly in Boston’s Game 3 win, sending him to the line a dozen times. The 7-foot center went just 4/12 in the 115-93 loss.
