The New York Knicks ended a 53-year championship drought this season.
Now, James Dolan's team is looking to end a different type of drought -- a more polarizing one.
In an interview with WFAN, the Knicks' owner confirmed that the team will visit the White House in the near future.
They will be the first NBA team to visit the White House during a Donald Trump presidency.
“We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted,” Dolan said. “We still have to figure out the details.”
Dolan is well aware of the polarizing nature of this decision, though he reaffirmed his ties to the sitting President.
“Look, I invited the president to come down for the game,” Dolan said Wednesday. “He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years. And I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”
While some of his players -- like Josh Hart -- have been openly critical of Trump on social media, others -- such as Mitchell Robinson -- have been avid supporters of the Republican politician and business mogul. Whether they'll all be in attendance, however, remains to be seen.
It was tradition for NBA champions to visit the White House before the 2017 Golden State Warriors opted out, given their stance on the Trump administration.
