Knicks interested in Rockets' Eric Gordon?

The New York Knicks are 13-17 on the season and desperately need to make some changes.

After making the playoffs last year, the Knicks look to be regressing badly.

The Houston Rockets, meanwhile, are 10-20 on the season and eagerly looking to dump veterans in an effort to save money.

Is a trade between these two squads brewing?

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks reportedly have an eye on Eric Gordon’s status heading into the NBA trade deadline.

“Knicks point guard Derrick Rose has had Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon on his radar,” he wrote.

“Now, with the Dec. 15 trade marker past, Knicks president Leon Rose does, too. Gordon is on a long list of potentially available players the Knicks have talked about internally, according to a source.

“The 3-point shooting guard isn’t a fit for the rebuilding Rockets, as he turns 33 on Christmas. The Post reported in 2016 — after Rose got traded to the Knicks — that he was trying to recruit the then-free agent Gordon to New York. Gordon eventually signed a deal with New Orleans.”

Gordon has been hot and cold this season. During one stretch in early December he went four straight games scoring in double figures. But then on Dec. 16, against the Knicks no less, he put up five points on 2-of-8 shooting in 30 minutes of action.

Two days later against the Detroit Pistons? Eighteen points on 7-of-11 shooting in 28 minutes of action.

The Knicks have some players on the roster that they desperately want to trade but cannot, making the prospect of a splashy blockbuster deal a little less realistic. That said, a piece like Gordon is very gettable and can plug some notable holes.

Will they ultimately be able to get this thing done? It remains to be done. Should they? Absolutely.
