Knicks Make Historical Jalen Brunson Announcement During Game 1 Against Pacers

New York Knicks superstar Jalen Brunson has been brilliant during the team's current playoff run. He's averaging 28.8 points per game in the postseason -- a jump from his regular season average of 26 points per game.

Right now, he's en route to leading the Knicks to a Game 1 win over the Indiana Pacers to kick off the Eastern Conference.

(Editor's Note: This was written mid-game, prior to Aaron Nesmith's heroics and Tyrese Haliburton channeling his inner Reggie Miller.)

The Knicks have a hefty lead, a little over midway through the final frame. Brunson has 31 points* on 12-of-19 shooting as he aims to close out Game 1.

Brunon's co-star, Karl-Anthony Towns, has been superb in Game 1, too, scoring 30 points* and adding ten rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting with a little over five minutes remaining in the game.

Brunson, though, achieved history in the soon-to-be victory. With his 30-plus points in the game, the Villanova product has now achieved that mark on 18 occasions in a Knicks jersey, which ties him with Patrick Ewing to lead the franchise.

"Jalen Brunson has scored 30+ points tonight against the Pacers. This marks his 18th career 30+ point playoff game as a Knick, which ties Patrick Ewing for the most in franchise history," the Knicks announced during the game.

Brunson has continued to solidify himself among the greats who have sported the blue and orange New York jersey, and this historical announcement only adds to that.

The Knicks, with the backing of Madison Square Garden, had an incredible fourth quarter push to put the game just out of reach, though the starters had to play late into the game to ensure victory.

*Both Brunson's and Towns' final stat lines are due to change, given they shoot and/or score late in the contest.
