Knicks, Pistons, Mavericks reportedly among teams interested in DeMar DeRozan

More teams are throwing their names into the ring for San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan.

The New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons and Dallas Mavericks are among teams interested in the soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, according to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer.

However, DeRozan is reportedly interested in joining his hometown Lakers this summer and could forgo higher salary opportunities to join L.A. in pursuit of a championship following the team's trade for Westbrook, Fischer reported last week.

If DeRozan were to join the Lakers, they'd boast a frightening starting lineup including Westbrook, DeRozan, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

DeRozan has spent the last three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. During the 2020-21 campaign, he averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game while shooting 49.5% from the field.

The Lakers would be the 31-year-old's best shot at winning a title within the next few years. The Knicks haven't made it out of the first round of the playoffs since 2013. The Pistons have only made the playoffs twice in the last 12 years, and the Mavericks haven't made it past the first round since 2011, the year they won the NBA title.

DeRozan just completed a five-year, $139 million contract. It's unclear what kind of deal he's searching for this summer.
