New York Knicks forward Mikal Bridges will make $24.9 million next season in the final year of his contract.
The former Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets wing can sign an extension with the Knicks this offseason and one NBA analyst believes that will happen.
In a column called "Every NBA Team's Toughest Upcoming Financial Decision," Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report projected the Knicks to sign Bridges to a massive extension this summer.
"New York is all-in with its core, and Bridges has just one year left in the deal. This offseason, the Knicks figure to do what they can to sign him to an extension," Pincus wrote. "Projection: Bridges gets a new deal starting at the most he can get ($34.9 million)."
Bridges averaged 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Knicks during the regular season while shooting 50.0% from the field, 35.4% from beyond the arc and 81.4% from the free-throw line.
Entering Thursday's Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Indiana Pacers, Bridges is averaging 15.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists in the playoffs against the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics and Pacers.
New York won Game 5 against Indiana, so the series is now at 3-2. The Knicks must win Game 6 on the road to keep their special season alive.
Bridges put up 12 points, three rebounds and five assists in Game 5. He shot 6-of-12 overall.
The Knicks acquired Bridges from the Nets last summer. New York traded five first-round draft picks to Brooklyn for Bridges, who has career averages of 14.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists with the Suns, Nets and Knicks.
