Jacob Toppin has proven to be a relative slam dunk in the New York Knicks system this year and it looks like he's about to stick around.
The Knicks organization announced on Monday that Toppin, the latest metropolitan entrant in the annual Slam Dunk Contest, would be signed to a two-way contract that will keep him between Manhattan and Westchester. Toppin had previously signed a 10-day contract with the NBA squad but moved back to the G League group over the weekend.
Toppin has earned fringe minutes in Manhattan (17 points, 9 rebounds in jus over 46 minutes) but has been one of the most consistent contributors among the prospect squad since coming aboard as an undrafted free agent out of Kentucky after the draft.
In 15 regular season appearances with the G League, Toppin is averaging 21.4 points and 8.7 rebounds. Sent back to Westchester over the weekend, Toppin tallied 37 points and 19 rebounds in a split back-to-back set against Detroit's affiliate, Motor City.
The NBA's Knicks return to action on Tuesday when they face the Atlanta Hawks (7:30 p.m. ET, MSG).
