The Knicks came into Cleveland for Games 3 and 4 and looked even more comfortable than they did back home at Madison Square Garden.
That’s just the way these playoffs have gone for New York.
The Knicks have been the clear beasts of the East from the opening round on, and now they finally have the conference championship to prove it. For the first time since 1999, New York is headed back to the NBA Finals.
And unlike that lockout-shortened season 27 years ago, there’s no asterisk attached to this one.
Just as they eventually did against the Hawks and earlier against the 76ers, the Knicks overwhelmed the Cavaliers in Game 4, cruising to an easy 130-93 win to complete the sweep at Rocket Arena.
New York will now await the winner of the Western Conference finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, a series currently tied 2-2.
Behind the usual stars — Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges and company — the Knicks seemed to score whenever and however they wanted. They controlled the pace, controlled the energy and eventually just wore Cleveland down.
Meanwhile, Knicks fans practically turned Rocket Arena into a second home court.
“Let’s Go Knicks” chants echoed through the building throughout the night as frustration mounted for a Cavaliers team that entered the season with championship expectations, only to get steamrolled in the conference finals.
The Knicks last won an NBA title in 1973.
Now, for the first time in nearly three decades, they’re getting another shot at one.
