Knicks Waive John Konchar, Sign Tony Bradley

8:38 am: The Knicks have removed a pair of players from their training camp roster, announcing today (via Twitter) that swingman John Konchar and big man N’Faly Dante have been placed on waivers.

Konchar, a seven-year NBA veteran, was on a non-guaranteed Exhibit 9 deal with the Knicks but was viewed as a contender to make the regular season roster, having been expected to vie with Bruce Brown, Ochai Agbaji, James Wiseman, and Drew Eubanks for a spot.

However, the 30-year-old had been away from the Knicks this week while dealing with a personal matter, sources tell Ian Begley of SNY.tv (Twitter link). According to Begley, the Knicks and Konchar made the mutual decision to part ways, allowing him to spend additional time away from the team.

Konchar has never averaged more than 5.1 points per game in a season, but he was a rotation regular and a jack-of-all-trades contributor over the course of six-and-a-half seasons with the Grizzlies before being traded to Utah in February. The 6’5″ wing rebounds well for his position, can handle the ball a little, and is capable of defending multiple positions. He can also knock down the occasional three-pointer, with a career rate of 34.9% from beyond the arc.

Dante, meanwhile, had signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Knicks ahead of training camp. While that contract could’ve been converted into a two-way deal before the season, it looks like the plan is to have him join the Westchester Knicks in the G League as an affiliate player.

Dante suffered a torn ACL in his right knee last December during a G League game, so it’s unclear when he’ll be ready to suit up for Westchester. The 6’11” center made four NBA appearances as a rookie with Houston in 2024/25, then four more with Atlanta last season before being waived in February.

Having opened up two spots on their 21-man preseason roster, the Knicks immediately filled one of those openings by signing forward Toby Okani to an Exhibit 10 contract, the team announced (via Twitter). It’s the second time New York has signed Okani to a non-guaranteed camp contract this month — it remains to be seen whether he’ll get the opportunity to take part in training camp or whether he’ll be waived quickly again.

According to Begley (via Twitter), free agent center Tony Bradley remains on the Knicks’ radar as another possible training camp addition.
